GAMING

SNK Bringing Samurai Shodown Back With Samurai Spirits - While it’s not the most popular fighting series to have graced the scene, SNK’s Samurai Shodown has enjoyed many releases over the years. Now, the game is headed to market in 2019, although interestingly enough, there is no mention of which platforms this will be found on…yet. I’m hopeful that it will find its way to arcades, but we’ll have to wait and see. Possibly NSFW due to violence/blood

IOC Prez Shoots Down Esports In The Olympics Due To Video Game Violence - Speaking of violence, violent games were in the news again this week. Now, I have no problem with video games not becoming official Olympic events. But I do have a problem with this guy lumping all video games together as “violent”. He’s the kind of dope who envisions games and gamers as belonging to that arcade scene from Robocop 2. Of course, don’t mention that there are “violent” Olympic events, from archery, to the biathlon to fencing and so on. But since he doesn’t know about the existence of games like Tetris, I’m sure that’s all lost on him.

Polymega Console Announced - Looking for a multi-console emulator box that supports the Sony PlayStation, Sega CD, Sega Saturn, Turbographx-CD and more? Then the Polymega might be for you. Supporting CD games out of the box for up to 32 game consoles, you can also enjoy cartridge play for consoles such as the NES, SNES, Turbograpx-16 and Sega Genesis support via the “Element Module,” helping this cover most systems of the late ’80s through the mid-’90s. Although for me, is it too much to ask for Atari Jaguar/Jag CD and 3DO support? 😛 Of course, there is some skepticism - in part due to vaunted efforts like the Coleco Chameleon. Some eagle-eyed viewers noticed in this trailer below, that instead of using Saturn footage of particular games like Sega Rally, they used the arcade. If you’re interested, you can pre-order here as the console is promised to launch “early 2019.”

Polymega™ Official Launch Trailer

The world’s most compatible game console has arrived. This is Polymega™. Pre-order now at polymega.com. Play PlayStation, Saturn, Neo Geo CD, TurboGrafx-CD, Sega CD right on the Base Unit. Expand your compatibility with Element Module Sets for cartridge based systems like NES, SNES, TurboGrafx-16 / PC-Engine, and Genesis / Mega Drive.

Super Combat Fighter Dreams Of Mortal Kombat - Between 1988 and the release of NARC, to about 1995, a graphics technique known as digitization graced the scene of gaming. Few games gave as strong a spotlight to the technique as Midway’s Mortal Kombat did, it falling to the wayside as soon as texture mapped 3D polygons became good enough. Still, such games were around long enough to create nostalgia for us old fogies to crave down the road, so here is a new project on Kickstarter that looks to bring a digitized fighter to market. It should be noted that this is not the first project of it’s kind in recent memory; the Galloping Ghost Arcade in Brookfield, IL has been working on their own digitized fighter called Dark Presence since 2006, although given the amount of time that one has taken, I wouldn’t be surprised if SCF makes it out first.

Starlink: Battle For Atlas Dogfighting(PS4/XB1) & Starfox Gameplay (SW): Ubisoft’s space battle game looks to be on a pretty good track, but with some of the footage released this week, one can see why the company was so eager to get Nintendo involved as it seems to be a perfect fit with the Starfox IP. Of course, only the Switch version will enjoy that, but by the looks of it, Nintendo won’t have to worry about bringing Starfox Zero over to the platform any time soon.

Industries Of Titan, The Industrial/City Building Sim (PC) - Can you manage to build an industrious city set on Saturn’s mysterious and fascinating moon of Titan? That’s the challenge of this game. It does seem like they sped things up a bit for this “combat” trailer, so it might be slightly confusing. If you’re into anything of this nature though, you can add it to your Steam wishlist here.

A New Secret Is Found In Doom 2 - As the “last” secret to be found, this one obviously eluded gamers for many years. Here it is:

Pain Elemental reveals the last official secret of Doom 2

Runner: Zero-Master Date: 2018-08-30 IWAD: Doom2.wad Category: UV-Max Map: 15 (Industrial Zone) Source Port: Crispy Doom 4.3 Time: 8:20 Description: A true UV-Max demo of map 15! Skip to 3:00 to see the trick, I wouldn’t recommend watching the rest as it’s slow and mostly just for the purpose of showing 100% kills, items and secrets on the intermission screen.

Space Pr0n Of The Week: Galactic Tails - Comets have tails; planets have tails and now we see that galaxies have them too. Granted, just like planets, the tails tend to not be visible to the naked eye, this image here combines data from both the Hubble and Chandra X-Ray. For the galaxy we call ESO-137-001, you can see blue star clusters being formed in the wake as the dance of creation continues:

This image combines NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope observations with data from the Chandra X-ray Observatory. As well as the electric blue ram pressure stripping streaks seen emanating from ESO 137-001, a giant gas stream can be seen extending towards the bottom of the frame, only visible in the X-ray part of the spectrum.
